I am now on ao3 and I want to start posting some of my vids there. So I noticed before there was an auction for vids, and then also a fic exchange. Is it ok for just anyone to share their ao3 vids in here when there isn't like an auction or a vid exchange?

Assignments! <333 & "Dear Vidder"

I've let AO3 do it's thing ((it's magical!!)) and when I cross-checked it, there were a couple cases where only one fandom was matchable - but everyone should have at least one.
-----That means that assignments have gone out and vid-plotting can commence. HUZZAH!!!

You should've been notified via AO3 ~~and they seem to have it together~~ but please do me a favor and let me know you've gotten the assignment. PM or email, leave a comment here saying I GOT IT (just don't say who you got) --- whatever is easiest. If you do NOT have an email with your assignment, please let me know!!!

Dear Vidder
Similar to most fic exchanges and festivids, participants are more than welcome to leave a link to a "Dear Vidder" letter in the comments. Dear Vidder letters are completely optional and are designed to give your vidder ideas of things you're interested in (examples). Just a reminder that your vidder does not have to use your suggestions, matching is on fandom only.

One of the things I find amazing at festivids is the amount of "treats" people make above and beyond the exchange. So why not do the same here? Feel free to browse the "Dear Vidder" letters. You do not have to be signed up for the exchange in order to make "treats", anyone and everyone is welcome.

Details about posting vids will be up in a couple of weeks (after VividCon, is anyone going?). In the meantime, if you have any questions, please let me know.

Vid Exchange Signups

General Rules/FAQ:
By participating in the vid exchange, you agree to make a video in a matching fandom of at least 1 minute in length by September 30th. In exchange, a vid for a fandom you are requesting will be made by a mystery vidder.

When signing up, you need to request at least 3 fandoms you can request up to 6 fandoms. You also need to offer at least 3 fandoms, although you can offer up to 10.

The character and description areas of the signup are available for you to provide additional information about what you like about the fandom, what things you may or may not want in a vid, music preferences, etc. Please be aware that this is optional for your vidder. Also, like other exchanges (ie. yuletide, festivids, etc.) we will also have an optional 'Dear Vidder' post.

Signups are open from now until July 31st.

AO3 Tutorial: signing up for a gift exchange
This is my first time using the AO3 collection and challenges as a host, so if you have any questions or run across any issues with the form, please let me know.

Nomination Period reminder

Just a reminder that Fandom Nominations (DW)/Fandom Nomincations (LJ) are open until July 20th.

Signups to participate in the exchange will begin July 21st!!

For those unfamiliar with AO3, I wanted to provide some useful links:

+ Fan Video and Multimedia includes several resources of interest to vidders, particularly how to embed a video on AO3
+ Collections and Challenges which contains a wall of text, but useful to explain the details of terms such as 'unrevealed' and 'anonymous'.
+ Tutorial: How to Sign up for a gift exchange
+ Tutorial: Posting a work to a challenge

One of the nice things about the AO3 Collection and Challenge is that the post is made by YOU and yet can remain anonymous for a short period of time for that warm-fuzzy anon period*.
After artist reveals, the post is STILL YOURS and any comments, hit counts, kudos, etc. remain in one place. Cool, huh?

If anyone does not have an AO3 account and would like to participate, please comment and we'll coordinate getting you an invite. :D

*Keep in mind that using your own YouTube account may give away your identity! You may mask your identity however you wish in your post and edit it after the exchange however you'd like. I will have a vimeo account available if participants would like to use it. Embeds will not be required, a working download link is sufficient.

Fandom Nominations are open from now until July 20th.

You may nominate to up six (6) fandoms that you'd like to see included in the exchange. Nominating fandoms does not obligate you to participate in the exchange, but please only nominate if you're planning on participating.

All fandoms welcome - large or small. However, please consider how accessible the source material is for vidders when nominating fandoms.

ONLY FANDOMS NOMINATED WILL BE AVAILABLE DURING SIGNUPS

When you enter a fandom, select 'Submit another response' if you'd like to add another fandom. You may nominate up to six (6) fandoms.

A Vid Exchange?

Hello!

I was wondering what the interest would be in a multi-fandom vid exchange. I've wanted one for so long that contains some of the larger fandoms that I thought it might be best just to run one! :D

P.S. My intention is to use the AO3 challenge feature within the Collections to do matches and such - perhaps encouraging more vidders to archive there (?). ~~So having an AO3 account would be pretty important. With the recent activity there, getting new accounts might be difficult. Thoughts?~~

Looking at the calendar of events, and if there is enough interest in an exchange, I would expect our schedule to be something like this:

Fandom nominations: July 10th - July 20th
Vidder Sign-Ups: July 21st - July 31st
Vids due: September 30th

Exciting things at AO3!!

So, many of you already know about the Vidding Roadmap that is underway at OTW, right? In preparation of promoting things, they are hosting a multi-media contest (wallpapers, icons, buttons, even vids!)

The goal of the graphics is to promote multimedia transformative works in general--to create art about art, or vids about vids, or art about vidding or vids about artmaking or, well you get the idea. There'll be some tickybox type voting and there will be prizes and such--so if you're an artist or a vidder and support the OTW and want a Torrent of Your Own (streaming to come next!) you should make and submit something!

Details can be found here where they want your icons, your graphics, your remixed media...

Once again, I want to thank everyone for being so supportive and making this auction a success so far. Now is the time when all the hard work is going on - I can sense the anticipation!

A few housekeeping things:
1) For those of you who have finished your vid, you are utterly awesome. Please feel free to post it wherever you'd like (it's your vid, afterall). We would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE for you to post it here as well. :D Feel free to post a link, post an embed, whatever format strikes your fancy. It would be great if you could post the fandom so we can be sure to tag it right.

2) We've got beta posts!! click here to be a beta and if none are available and/or fit your needs, then click here to seek a beta.

3) Also, just a reminder. If you feel you won't be able to complete your vid by mid-August, please try and let us know by the end of July (or let us know that you've made arrangements for an extension with your bidder).

4) We'll post a masterlist at the conclusion of the whole thing in both comms.

Vidder sign-ups are officially closed (although if you want to sign up, you can do so up until we post the auction - we'll be happy to get you in!).

Tomorrow we will be posting 18 vid auctions, so stay tuned!

A master list with FAQ and links to the individual auctions will be posted here tomorrow once bidding is open. The auction itself will be held on our sister site on LJ. No need to join the LJ community for updates, we'll be sure to keep you up to date!

In the meantime, I invite you to take a gander at the tags page to get an idea of some of the fandoms our vidders will be offering.

ETA: Apparently tags which aren't used yet are only visible to mods. I didn't realize this. I've pasted them below the cut because I want everyone to be as excited for this as I am. :)

OTW update and AO3 Vidder Sign-up Reminder

First of all, just a quick reminder that VIDDER SIGN-UPS are open until next Saturday, May 15th.

In related news, OTW recently announced their Vidding Roadmap, outlining their plan for the features and services they hope to provide. Highlights include:
1. Vidding Community Resource Site
2. A Dark Archive (to store and protect vids)
3. A Torrent of Our Own (TO3)
4. AO3 Embed Code
5. Integration of the TO3 into the AO3
"One of the key resources we need to make this project (and others) move forward quickly is people power." More details about volunteering for various OTW projects can be found here.

Also, I'm happy to announce that so far we have 14 vidders signed up between our LJ & DW sites. THIS IS FABULOUS NEWS!
